Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) will conduct Improvement of Performance Examination (compartmental examinations) for students who could not qualify in this year’s annual Class X examinations, from July 16 to 23. A total of 600 students are slated to take the examination. CBSE Patna zone had declared Class X results on June 10, with 99.51 % students qualifying. “The examination for all seven papers of Class X will be held within a span of seven days. As the result was good, there are only a few takers for this examination,” CBSE Patna zone regional director S U Sorte told TOI.
The compartmental examination for unsuccessful Class XII students will be conducted on July 16 only. Due to alleged discrepancies in results, declared on May 27, a large number of affected Class XII students have applied for this examination. “We are working out the strategy to conduct the examination, which will have a large number of students from Bihar and Jharkhand writing it,” Sorte told TOI. A total of 6,000 students have applied for compartmental examination. The one-day examination will be held at 16 centres across Patna, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Ranchi.
Wednesday was the last date for Class XII students to submit applications for compartmental examination. All students who had failed in one subject only will be taking the examination. The last date for submission of applications for Class X students was June 23; however, the applications will now be accepted till June 30 with a fine of Rs 10 per subject.
The much-talked about CBSE unique Proficiency Test for Class X students in Patna zone along with other zones will be conducted from July 4 to 8. It is for the first time that CBSE will conduct this self-evaluating test. “The test is an indicator of which stream the student should take in Plus Two. Students appearing in the test will be issued a certificate by the board indicating percentile rank. It will, however, have no connection with admission to Plus Two,” Sorte said.
This proficiency test, based on Class 9 and 10 syllabuses and carrying 100 marks, will be a paper-and-pencil test and all questions will be of multiple-choice type. General guidelines and sample questions in each subject and information about the overall design of the question paper is available on the CBSE website. The students will be required to mark the answers on a sheet provided at the test centre.
The test will be conducted in mathematics, Hindi, science, social science and English. The mathematics test will be held on July 4, Hindi on July 5, science on July 6, social science on July 7 and English on July 8.
About the ‘rectification’ of Class XII results, Sorte said most of the students who had applied for it have been individually sent results.
“Minor variations of markings were detected during re-totalling. Results have been sent to almost all applicants. The remaining students will receive results within a week,” he said.
